  • In January 2020, California-based startup, Cognita Labs won FDA clearance for its first device, a smart cap for inhalers used by people with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and other respiratory disorders. The device, called CapMedic, sits on top of the inhaler and houses sensors that guide users and collect data for remote patient monitoring.
  • In September 2020, Teva Respiratory, an affiliate of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, completed its digital inhaler portfolio with the launch of two new products: the AirDuo Digihaler and the ArmonAir Digihaler. Both of the new inhalers are prescription inhalation powders designed to treat people with asthma 12 years and older. The Digihaler line is also said to be equipped with Bluetooth wireless technology that automatically records inhaler-use data every time the cap is opened or a user inhales.
