Yeasts are unicellular microorganisms which are used in the production of various food and drinks. Nutritional yeasts which are organically grown and processed are known as organic yeasts. They are environmentally friendly as they are produced without making use of harsh acids, bases like sodium hydroxide, synthetic vitamin, ammonia, anti-forming agents and fertilizer, pesticides, antibiotics, herbicides, or ionizing radiation which are required in conventional yeast production.

Traditional yeast uses ammonia or similar compounds as nitrogen source, whereas, in case of organic yeast, different plant derived ingredients of the fermentation media such as cereals, molasses or leguminous crops are used which provide the yeast with all the nutrients it needs to grow.

They act as high-quality nutritional supplements as they contain vitamins, minerals and proteins and aid in the boosting of immunity.  Consequently, they find heavy usage in food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, and the brewing industry.

The global organic yeast market is expected to grow at a flourishing CAGR of around 10-12% over the period of next 5 years.

The growth of this market is attributed towards major pertaining factors including; the increasing demand for organic food products across the globe, the increasing awareness among consumers about health & wellness, increasing adoption of veganism and vegetarianism, the increasing stringent regulations and restrictions for the use of monosodium glutamate (MSG) in food products, the globally increasing demand for organic bakery products and the introduction of various new products by market players in the industry etc.

Additionally, land areas are being increasingly converted into vineyards yeast by the producers who seek to provide a distinct taste and aroma to the wines produced by them. This is creating new opportunities for organic yeasts market as they are demanded by the producers on a large scale because of the benefits that they offer.

Moreover, the increasing focus of market players to proliferate their sales and increase the awareness of products by making use various distribution channels such as supermarkets and hypermarkets, wholesale, ecommerce, and retail stores is creating ample opportunities for the growth of this market.

Furthermore, other factors such as growing recommendation for consuming healthy foods by the official nutritionists, increasing concerns over antibiotic drug residues and over the health effects of genetically modified foods, the constant shift in consumer tastes, increasing demand for chemical-free ingredients, rising urbanization and disposable incomes of people worldwide, fast-paced lifestyle of consumers and their changing consumption patterns will further contribute to the expansion of the market growth.

However, the high production cost of organic yeast and the stringent regulations for the production, labeling, and marketing of organic products hamper the growth of this market.
